2 July, 2015 - The recent landslide in Darjeeling, Sikkim, Mirik and other nearby places of India has so far taken away 38 lives whereas 23 missing goes missing and about 500 people are displaced as reported by Yahoo News. The rainfall in Darjeeling district on Tuesday night precipitated massive landslides all across the hills and swept away houses along with several lives. It has been reported that Kalimpong alone received more than 200mm of rainfall. Several places and villages are still far from reach of rescue teams as roads are not connected.
Similarly, the roads leading to various places of landslide affected areas are still blocked. According to the road situation report presented by Sikkim police this morning, restoration work is in progress at Setijhora (WB), however NH10 highway still remains closed. NDRF team and other private and government agencies are deployed in the affected region for relief and rescue operation. It has also been reported that the weather may remain same for the next couple of days along with heavy rainfall. To view the details of the road please click here.
